Final Project - Sound Wizards
I was really excited for our final project because it's something different. Based on a given sound clip, which we were lucky enough to choose which one we wanted , we were assigned to act to the two minutes of the chosen sound clip and I knew straight up, that it would be fun because this time for the final project, we got to be in groups. My 12 group members consisted of Kai Qian, Kitty, Xiiao Shi, Jasmine, Parisa, Jun, Claire, Jessica, Alicia, Chloe, Dong Yong and Myself. Because it was that stage where we all knew each other quite well, it made things so much easier for us to work. After out brainstorm session, we decided that we wanted to do a christmas theme which I was most excited about because to me, it's different and unique. We agreed to name "Jingle Bellas " as our group name.
Idea Journal
The 12 of us had to put in our best efforts for the idea journal so we had to evenly split our roles in doing a specific part for the idea journal in order to produce a good one when compiled. Some of us did the timeline, some did the costume design, some did the props, some did the dance moves and some did the choreography. By doing this, we tried to be as organised as possible in making the idj to look it's best when handed over to the lecturer. Not only did we focus on our chosen sound clip, but we also did hear the rest, so each of us did a one full page listing down what we think the rest of the sound clips sounds like.In the end our idea journal turned out to be thicker than expected, filled with everybody's ideas. Because we were having a tight schedule at the time, some of us were getting quite worried that we wouldn't be able to rehearse in time before the big day so we had no choice but to meet up every weekend.
As for our plan, there are 2 kids, 9 elves and 1 Santa Claus forming into a christmas story when combined with the sound clip playing in the background. Choreography was a must as there was a dance battle which Jun and I were handling on and the ending choreography which we've all worked together on.
As for the props and costumes, we really needed to work on that in advance. For the props, we used thick cardboard for the fireplace and some brick sticker wallpaper with texture which was perfect We also had to make and paint on a santa workshop sign to make our setting seem obvious that it is a workshop. As for the costumes, we ordered our red and white socks online as well as 9 green sweaters for the elves but unfortunately, there was an issue with the shipping of 5 sweaters when 4 only arrived so we had to find 5 similar sweaters. We also had to find Dong Yong's santa outfit which was a success and pyjamas for the kids which was also a success. Dong Yong's santa beard was a struggle to make as the cotton balls would not stay on so we had to come up with a few solutions until we got it right.
After weeks of practicing, we were more relaxed about the performance until the big day came . Elves wore some lipstick, the kids did their hair and Dong Yong prepared his sunglasses and pillow to stuff under his shirt. At the end of the day, our performance was a success and we were all so happy and proud becayse all the hard work has been paid off. Summing up this assignment, I enjoyed it, it was fun and I got to bond with my classmates a lot more and I like the fact that we're finishing off the semester with a fun project.
