Assignment 1- Interactive Sci-fi cube

Planning

Behind the scenes

final product

Our first brainstorm session in class has got us thinking of ideas that we could come up with and most importantly, interactive ideas because we needed more than one interactive feature in our cube. We all went home, thought of ideas and shared them when we all met up again.

During our discussion, Villson came up with a plan of the overall structure of the cube and explained it to us briefly whilst Jun made prototypes. Claire, Kelly and I did some research on the film, recording some information of the overall story. As for the plan,  the interior consisted of a 3D pop up hulk that is being trapped, waiting to be free to fight the enemy (other groups) whilst the exterior consisted of a representative of iron man where we designed fake machinery surrounding all over the outside of the cube which took some time to do, but i was proud of how well the outcome turned out.  Besides the machinery on the exterior of the cube, we also designed a lock, as well as an hourglass where we spray painted rice into gold in colour . The reason for the lock is so that the hulk could be free and the hourglass shows the amount of time the hulk has to escape.

For our first assignment, we were split into teams. As for my team, there was Claire, Jun, Kelly, Villson and myself. When our lecturer first gave a briefing on the assignment, It was something very different and unique to me, something that I have never done before in school but I knew that it was something I would enjoy because after all, it was all about creativity.

The rules for every team was to create and build up an Interactive cube based on a given sci-fi film. We were lucky enough to choose a film so my team ended up choosing on the well known 2012 film, the avengers. Since this assignment looked like the final product needed to be perfect in time for presentation, the team and I already knew straight up that it had to require a lot of contribution from all group members.

Because we didn't want to waste any time, we started building the cube . We used cardboard for the entire exterior of the cube and planned to cover it with red paper to represent iron man. After a full day, we managed to cut out the pieces of the cube and went on to covering up the whole thing with the red paper. It was challenging, but we managed to complete that step in time.

After the structure of the cube was done, we planned on our roles. Villson, Jun and Kelly was in charge of the exterior and Claire and I ,was in charge of the interior. Because we had a tight schedule at the time, we began to stress out a lot. As for me, I kept on worrying that we wouldn't be able to complete it in time because of how busy we were with other projects. Making the hulk was a challenging task for Claire and I as the both of us needed to perfect it in order for it to fold properly into the box. We went through some struggles, but we managed to achieve a 3D pop up hulk using cardboard, green paper and newspaper. There were also some struggles with the exterior where the cub couldn't close and the rice in the hourglass kept on falling out, so we had to come up with solutions.

Summing up this assignment, it was very time consuming, but very fun. I never knew that I would be doing something like this ever since I enrolled and I'm honestly so pleased with how well the cube turned out in the end
