Assignment 3- Object Monologue

Our 3rd assignment took things to a whole new level where were assigned to create a video based on an object's expression , which was an unexpected task for me as I had no idea that we had to make inanimate objects come to life. Our lecturer told us that the object could be anything non-living so I started to think. I came up with 3 different objects  (an easel, a notebook, a paintbrush) to choose from and ended up choosing on a paintbrush because there's so much to do with it

Planning

We once again did the 6 hat mind map which was super helpful and it was when new ideas started developing  in my head for the video which was a good start.

As for my video plans, I decided to compose a story behind a paintbrush named Alex where she walks you through her life as well as the struggles that she had to face. I decided to add a little bit of history into the video as well for educational purposes. The main content that I was going for would have to be a storyline with a mashup of a genre of family and comedy. Throughout the process , I did run into some issues. At my first editing attempt,  I didn't realize that my video has gone over the time limit, so I had to do something fast. I managed to cut out the unwanted scenes and re- edited the whole thing again, and it worked. After a lot of hard work of using my creativity, my video ended up to be exactly 4 minutes and 52 seconds which was a perfect timing because the maximum was 5 minutes long.

Because the content of my video happens to be a storyline, of course I needed to prepare a script and it was very helpful.

Behind the scenes

Editing was a lot of hard work to do considering I'm not the best at editing. At the very beginning, I wanted my video to be simple and to just let the clips run smoothly. I didn't want the amount of edits to take over my video so I tried to remain the simplicity throughout the whole 4 minutes with bits of editing here and there, but not too much . In the end, the video turned out alright and I was pleased with it.

These are the same pictures of Alex with her friends and her family that is being attached to the cork board in the video.

Filming locations

This was the fun part out of the whole process because I filmed in and out the house. At home, I filmed on the desk and customised my own set up on the floor with fairy lights, pictures and a stand for Alex. Apart from filming inside, I also filmed outside the house so I went to artfriend to film the second scene which was quite an experience.

Summing up this assignment, I personally enjoyed it a lot because I got to try something new and gain a skill and I'm honestly really proud of how my video turned out.
